Not All Home Improvements Have To Be Expensive
Your home is a place intended for relaxation, a place in which you unwind following a hard day’s work. It's the place where you have fun and enjoy each other's company. So, remodeling a house or when you are designing your home’s style, the mood of the home should be kept top of mind. Not all endeavors of home improvement must burn a hole in your pocket. There are various simple, easy and cheap ways to design and personalize your home. You don’t need to hire an interior designer or an architect. You can do this with a bit of research and a little work. Prior to getting set to begin on your home improvement project analyze for what purpose or need you'd like to redesign it.
Is it just to change the look? Or can it be for improving the resale and to upgrade the home? Based on the motive, plan it out. Break every activity down into steps and measures and write the nitty gritty of each step down. Start with step one and finish it. Most get overwhelmed by not having a plan not being able to see the end of the project. A detailed plan will help alleviate this for you.
A quick and easy way to change a room is to buy potted indoor plants for your living room, kitchen etc. Plants supply you with the aesthetic and fresh look to your room. Bright colors can alter the mood of the area in a second. If you are remodeling for the purpose of improving the sale of your home, consider neutral colors that will appeal to the majority of buyers. I prefer a light grey or linen for interior colors. Exterior colors I would chose natural tones, grey, tan, green etc. I would not attempt a yellow for exterior color. Yellow can be a bit bright and “loud” for a home that is up for sale. For inexpensive paint try Paints For Less in Azusa. They make recycled paints and can be as low as $5 a gallon.
Attempt giving the furniture a facelift if painting is too much for you. There are plenty of options on the market for seat covers. Covers can give even the old family couch a new and fresh feeling. Couch needs more than just a cover? Try just replacing the cushions with new foam.
You will be surprised at how just these few tasks can make a difference and for not a lot of money. You can also add flowers and scented candles in this area for the glowing look. Want to be a bit more artistic in your style? Try a gorgeous statue or a classic looking piece and make it the focal point of your room. Check out the house improvement stores, magazines, T.V shows along with other people's houses for ideas. One of my favorite activities is visiting the new builder homes in the area. They are always displayed with wonderful furniture, paintings, lighting, plants and more. They are an excellent, and free, place for inspiration. Also, you may find a “Model Home Store” in your area. Just Like The Model is located in Irvine and they have some great deals. They typically sell the furniture and accessories that were previously used in model homes and a good discount over new items. One other resource is CORT Furniture rentals. They have a clearance section on their website where you can find a number of deals on quality furniture.
You may also design your rooms maintaining a common theme in mind. For instance, if convenience is the major priority of your living area go for comfortable sofa sets. Ikea has a wonderful selection of comfortable and affordable sofas on display. Have book shelves in the living area and place a few books in them. This may to encourage yourself to comfortably lounge on the couch with a book.
Go for big coffee tables depending upon how big the room is. If you want, you can choose other themes like garden style living area, airy living area or contemporary style rooms. Don't hang too many photos and clutter the walls. Cluttered walls can make the room feel smaller and ceiling lower. Less is more as the old saying goes. The kitchen might be livened up with cabinets, wooden shelves, glass back splashes and granite or quartz counter tops. Quartz can be very affordable, easy to maintain and come in a variety of colors and edge contours. To see cabinets on display, check out Ikea or in Orange County, Builder’s Surplus. They have full kitchens on display for you to walk around in.
Not every improvement cost $10,000.00. It can if you don’t do your homework though. Find a good contractor and get multiple bids. Check out Nextdoor for referrals from your neighbors and sites like HomeAdvisor for contractors and other tradesmen. You can sign up for free and get multiple bids on HomeAdvisor.
Whatever you do, do something. Too many times, I have seen homeowner’s remodel their home just before the sale to increase the value after living in the home for 20 plus years. Never taking advantage of the remodel and enjoying it for themselves. Enjoy your home and let me know what you think about our article.
